Chandy Oommen Criticizes Removal from Youth Congress Post, Vows to Reveal All After Elections

Chandy Oommen, MLA and son of former Chief Minister Oommen Chandy, has launched a scathing criticism against the recent reorganization within the Youth Congress. Speaking to reporters in Kottayam, Oommen revealed that he was “insultingly removed” from his position as the Youth Congress National Outreach Cell Chairman on the death anniversary of his father, Oommen Chandy. He further stated that he would disclose all details regarding his removal and the circumstances surrounding it after the upcoming elections.
Oommen’s dissatisfaction was evident as he addressed the media, particularly in response to questions about Abin Varkey being overlooked for the Youth Congress president’s post. He acknowledged Varkey as a hardworking leader, admitting that it was natural for Varkey to feel pain over the decision. However, Oommen emphasized that everyone is bound to accept party decisions, regardless of personal preference. He reiterated his belief that Varkey deserved more consideration, especially given his dedicated work alongside Rahul Mankootathil as Vice President.
Chandy Oommen expressed his deep emotional distress over the manner of his dismissal. “I was removed from my position on the death anniversary of my father. This caused me immense mental anguish,” he stated. He lamented that he was not consulted, adding, “If they had told me, I would have resigned.” Oommen asserted that his removal was done in a humiliating way and that the reasons behind it are known to many. “I will not speak about it now. I will say everything one day, let the elections be over,” he declared, hinting at more revelations to come.
This development highlights internal rifts within the Youth Congress and the broader political landscape in Kerala, especially concerning the legacy of prominent leaders and the future direction of the party. The timing of Oommen’s removal, coinciding with his father’s death anniversary, has added a layer of emotional resonance to the controversy, potentially stirring further debate within party ranks and among the public.
