Case Ordered Against 3 Senior Police Officers for Framing 82-Year-Old in False Rape Case

THRISSUR: The Police Complaint Authority has issued an order to register a case against three high-ranking police officers for their alleged involvement in framing an 82-year-old man in a fabricated rape case. The officers named in the order by Authority member P.K. Aravinda Babu are current ACP K.G. Suresh, Ernakulam Rural SP K. Sudarshan, and retired ACP Sivadasan.
The original complaint against the elderly man was registered by the Guruvayur police in 2011. However, in 2015, the accused approached the Complaint Authority, asserting that the case was a malicious fabrication by the police, instigated by animosity stemming from an unrelated previous case. Following a thorough investigation, the Authority concluded that there was severe negligence and evidence of conspiracy on the part of the officers involved.
After a protracted legal battle spanning several years, the Assistant Sessions Court acquitted the 82-year-old man on November 30, 2023, finding him not guilty of the charges. Considering the grave lapses identified on the part of the police, the Authority has now directed that criminal proceedings be initiated against the aforementioned officers. Advocate Sarath Babu Kottakkal represented the complainant in this matter.
