BJP Protests Alleging Government Apathy in Karamana-Kaliyikkavila Road Project, Cites Slow Progress

BJP President Rajeev Chandrashekhar has accused the Pinarayi government of severely betraying the public by failing to implement the Karamana-Kaliyikkavila road development project. The project, which was initiated during the tenure of V.S. Achuthanandan, encompasses a 30-kilometer stretch, but only 11 kilometers have been completed over the period of the last four governments.

Chandrashekhar specifically criticized the Pinarayi government, stating that only 5 kilometers of the highway have been developed during its 10-year rule. He highlighted that the government has not even been able to complete the land acquisition for the one-and-a-half-kilometer stretch from Balaramapuram to Vazhimukku in the last five years.

The BJP also alleged a conspiracy at the bureaucratic level to reduce the road’s width from the proposed 30.2 meters to 22 meters for the section from Vazhimukku to Kaliyikkavila. The party demanded that the original alignment of 30.2 meters be immediately approved and boundary stones be installed to prevent this reduction.

In protest against the government’s perceived neglect, a highway march led by BJP District President Mukkampalamoodu Biju was inaugurated by BJP State President Rajeev Chandrashekhar, who handed over the flag. The foot march commenced from Balaramapuram at 5 PM on Thursday and concluded in Neyyattinkara, Thiruvananthapuram.

The concluding session of the protest was also inaugurated by BJP State General Secretary Adv. S. Suresh. During the event, several members from various other political parties officially joined the BJP.
