BJP Leader P.S. Sreedharan Pillai Alleges Foul Play in Kozhikode Youth’s Death Following Bus Video Controversy

Kozhikode: Adv. P.S. Sreedharan Pillai, former Governor of Goa, has raised concerns regarding the death of Deepak, a resident of Govindapuram, Kozhikode. Deepak’s death by suicide followed a social media video shared by a woman alleging sexual assault on a bus. Sreedharan Pillai stated that there is a strong suspicion of foul play in the procedural handling of Deepak’s death, speaking to the media after visiting the deceased’s residence.

According to Sreedharan Pillai, human rights activists indicate that monetizing such videos has become a prevalent and dangerous trend across the state. He highlighted a similar incident that occurred just two weeks prior, emphasizing the alarming nature of this situation. ‘Creating a story related to women, embellishing it with sensational details, and disseminating it worldwide for financial gain is a growing concern in Kerala. There are individuals earning millions through such activities. If this continues, the country faces a perilous future,’ Sreedharan Pillai warned.

He further questioned the police’s initial handling of the case. The primary police report notes that information about Deepak’s death was received at 10:15 AM and was registered as an ‘unusual death.’ Sreedharan Pillai argued that it is evident, even to a child, that this constitutes abetment to suicide, an offense punishable by up to ten years imprisonment. He pointed out that despite the video being the primary cause, even at 8:30 PM when the body was recovered, the police only recorded it as an unusual death. He also alleged that this crucial detail was concealed during the inquest and that, to his knowledge, the charge of abetment to suicide has still not been added.
