ASHA Workers End 265-Day Protest in Thiruvananthapuram, Demand for ₹21,000 Honorarium Continues

Thiruvananthapuram: ASHA (Accredited Social Health Activist) workers in Kerala have announced the conclusion of their 265-day-long day-night protest in front of the Secretariat in Thiruvananthapuram. The decision comes after the state government agreed to increase their honorarium, a move hailed as a victory by the strike committee.

The protesting workers had been demanding a significant increase in their monthly honorarium. The strike committee declared that the state government’s decision to hike the honorarium disproved earlier claims that the government lacked the authority to do so.

Despite this partial success, the ASHA workers’ struggle is far from over. The committee emphasized that their core demand for a monthly honorarium of ₹21,000 remains unmet. Consequently, the protest will now transition to a district-level agitation, as workers continue to press for their full demands. Details regarding the format and timing of these district-level protests are expected to be announced soon.
