Accused Shimjitha Reiterates Statement That Deepak Insulted Her on Bus Even After Arrest

KOZHIKODE: Shimjitha, the accused in the case where a young man died by suicide following allegations of sexual harassment, was arrested yesterday. Even after her arrest, Shimjitha maintains her statement that Deepak insulted her on the bus.

The police took Shimjitha into custody from a relative’s house in Vadakara, based on a complaint filed by Deepak’s family. She was subsequently arrested and produced before the Kunnamangalam First Class Magistrate Court, which remanded her for 14 days. Police have intensified their investigation into the incident, focusing on call records and the alleged video editing.

Shimjitha’s anticipatory bail application is scheduled to be heard by the Principal Sessions Court today. However, since Shimjitha is currently in police custody, this application is technically not maintainable, and the court is likely to dismiss or postpone it. Following this development, reports indicate that Shimjitha, who is presently remanded, is attempting to file a new bail plea in the Kunnamangalam First Class Magistrate Court. The police custody application for Shimjitha, who has been remanded for 14 days, for detailed questioning may also be considered by the court today.

In the incident involving the suicide of a young man following sexual harassment allegations, the police have decided to subject the phone of the accused, Shimjitha Mustafa, to detailed forensic examination. Considering the gravity of the case, police will today file an application in court to obtain custody of Shimjitha for further investigation.

The phone used to record Deepak’s video had already been taken into police custody, and controversial visuals have been found on it. However, based on the preliminary finding that the visuals were spread after being edited, the phone is being sent for forensic examination to collect more evidence.
