Accused in Wife Murder Case Dies by Suicide in Kannur Jail

KANNUR: Jilson (43), the accused in a wife murder case, committed suicide by slitting his throat in Kannur Central Jail. Jilson, a native of Kenichira in Wayanad, was found dead around 5:30 AM today.

According to jail authorities, Jilson used a small, sharp weapon to cut his throat and then squeezed the blood from the wound with his hand. He was immediately rushed to the hospital, but his life could not be saved.

Jilson had been transferred to Kannur Central Jail from Mananthavady Sub Jail seven months ago. Jail officials stated that he had attempted suicide twice before this incident and was continuously receiving counseling. His death comes at a time when an exhibition of his paintings, as he was known to be an excellent artist, was being prepared. Authorities are currently examining CCTV footage and other evidence related to the incident.

The murder for which Jilson was accused occurred during the last Vishu festival, when he allegedly locked his children in a room before killing his wife and attempting to take his own life. He was employed as a plumbing worker with the Water Authority in Padinjarathara.
