15 Students Hospitalized in Kasaragod After Consuming Shawarma

Kasaragod, Kerala – A concerning incident of suspected food poisoning has led to the hospitalization of approximately 15 students in Kanhangad, Kasaragod district. The students reportedly fell ill after consuming shawarma from a local eatery.
The incident occurred after the students, who had gathered to observe the Nabi Dinam celebrations at the Poochakkad mosque, purchased and consumed shawarma from a nearby establishment known as Bombay Hotel. Shortly after, by yesterday evening, many of the children began to experience symptoms of vomiting and general discomfort, necessitating their urgent admission to a local hospital.
Among those admitted for comprehensive medical care are Rifa Fathima (16), Fathimath Sakiya (13), Nafeesa Mehsa (13), and Nafeesath Sulfa (13), all residents of Poochakkad. While these four students remain under observation, the majority of the affected children received immediate primary treatment and have since been discharged from the hospital.
Preliminary complaints suggest that the shawarma served to the students might have been stale, leading to the adverse health reactions. Authorities are expected to investigate the matter thoroughly to ascertain the cause of the food poisoning and ensure food safety standards are upheld.
