10 Hospitalized After Stampede During Kasaragod Music Event

Kasaragod: Ten individuals were injured and subsequently hospitalized following a major stampede and crush during a music concert featuring singer Hanansha. The incident occurred during a musical event organized by the youth collective ‘Free’ in Nullippady. Numerous attendees collapsed due to suffocation amidst the overwhelming crowd.

Police were forced to resort to a lathi charge to disperse the large gathering. The uncontrolled rush led to the premature cancellation of the event and caused a complete standstill in the city’s traffic.

Hundreds of people had converged on the concert grounds and surrounding areas even before the music program commenced, which was identified as the primary factor contributing to the severe overcrowding. As the crowd became unmanageable, many concert-goers reported experiencing physical discomfort. Efforts by the police to regulate the crowd proved ineffective, resulting in a significant traffic gridlock throughout Kasaragod city. Attempts to reroute vehicles by the police were unsuccessful.

Given the escalating and uncontrollable situation, the music concert was ultimately brought to an end following directives from the police.

The potential for accidents at densely populated events is a persistent concern. The most effective measure to ensure safety in such circumstances is to actively avoid venues that are heavily overcrowded.
